Standards for overall quality analysis EMBL

We performed a systematic analysis of DNA-extraction protocol biases, the results of which indicate that these biases can represent a major source of composition variability, which in turn may affect the overall quality and interpretability of subsequent analyses. Given the importance of analysing yet uncultivable species in metagenomic data and the substantial biases we found for different sample handling procedures, we propose a guideline for overall quality analysis and discuss the complementary value of profiling yet unknown species in metagenomic data. This SOP aims to recommend parameters to be considered when performing an overall quality analysis.
